Still looking for tattoo for our son--Moving on to Delhi?

As some of you guys know, my son, Ryan, needs to get a tattoo that my girlfriend (fiance) and I have planned. For people who don't know, we went through a very difficult experience with his birth...I can't go into the detail鈥檚 again, but suffice it to say the tattoo means something very deep an special to us.

People here made us doubtful that we could get it done around where we live...on someone鈥檚 suggestion we then considered going to Tijuana (actualmente mi novia es Mexicana, ja ja!), which seemed like a good bet until people all started saying it was 鈥渄irty鈥?there with 鈥渄iseases鈥?and all this other stuff that my girlfriend (Esperanza) didn鈥檛 appreciate. Long story short, we wanted it done no later than Ryan鈥檚 birthday (March 5), so we still had some time to plan.

Then I got an idea ...I have relative鈥檚 near Delhi (my one side of family is from India, though I was born and totally raised here). I know they鈥檙e starting to have tattoo shop鈥檚 there now 鈥?they call them 鈥渂ody tattoo designing points鈥?or something...they actually call tattooing 鈥渆mbossing鈥?lol. Anyway, we could kill two birds with one stone; my uncles over there haven鈥檛 met Ryan yet. They could also help on his design since people are more spiritual there.

The weird thing is, there is this ritual they do in our Indian culture six month鈥檚 after a baby boy is born. You are supposed to cut the baby鈥檚 little hair and cleanse it and stuff. If we could get the tattoo done before then, and with my chacha and taya鈥檚 blessing鈥檚, it would really be something special.

So the challenge now is finding a place...I don鈥檛 think we鈥檒l find many on the web. Has anyone had experience with tattoo鈥檚 in Delhi? I鈥檝e heard of some place called Habib鈥檚, maybe at Chandni Chawk? thnx in advance

I think I remember the first question you posted (son 5 months?) At the time I couldn't even believe that someone would think about tattooing a 5 month old child and I had recommended that you and the baby's mom get tattoos to memorialize the occasion instead.

Now, after reading your current question, my opinion has changed. I think I understand now that this is much more of a cultural experience and accepted in your homeland.

I am fortunate to work with many wonderful people from India and I discussed this question with them. None of them were surprised that you wanted to have your son tattooed. I did ask if any of them could recommend a place in Delhi to do this, buy nobody was sure but I have 2 people that will check with their families in India and let me know. If I get any further information, I will let you know.

So I know there are a lot of cultures around the world where children will get tattooed as different rites of passage. Even so, I'm pretty sure there aren't any that will tattoo a child under the age of 3. There are a lot of reasons for this, not the least of which is the child is going to grow. a lot. meaning the tattoo is going to get so distorted that by the time he's done growing, it's going to be an illegible grayish blob. So this tattoo that you have so much meaning attached to, will be nothing more than an ugly scar that he's stuck with.

Just something you should think about is all. If you still want to go and get it, try to find a place that's clean. Your childs immune system is still growing, the last thing he needs is an infection in his blood.

By the way, i like you're idea for "miracle" in your other question.
