Go for it. I did it, I don't regret it a second. Careful though because it's high maintenance (you have to cut it every week or so)

Depending on your age, if you are in school or work, or both. I say if you want designs in your hair go for it, but not all of society is that open. I would suggest something tasteful, and maybe a skater cut, where the hair around the bottom of the head is cut short and the rest if left down will cover it. Then you can have designs you can show off when you go out, but cover up when necessary.
